Active in the North American taiko community for over 10 years, Byron Au Yong (Musical Director) helped organize the 1998 Northwest Regional Taiko Conference. As a consultant, he has served on the advisory council of WOMAD USA and the Seattle Symphony Learning Center. In 1997, he produced the compact disc compilation A Bridge Home: Music in the Lives of Asian Americans, the companion recording to the exhibition he developed for the Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle.

As a composer, Au Yong¹s numerous works have been performed internationally. Examples include Forbidden Circles, performed at the Fukuoka Gendai Hogaku Festival in Japan; Salt Lips Touching, performed at the Jeonju Sanjo Festival in South Korea; Two by Four premiered by the On Ensemble in Los Angeles; and Edge, for chamber ensemble, performed at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. He has received awards and fellowships from the American Composers Forum, Ford Foundation, Jack Straw Productions and National Endowment for the Arts. His music is available on Periplum Records and CRI/New World Records.
